La música de Alvaro Pacello Volume I
Overview
#Bloomerangs

Instru Dash Mental presents #Bloomerangs – La música de Alvaro Pacello. This four-volume, multi-episodic collection brings to light the never-before-released music of artistic polyglot Alvaro Pacello. Curated by Alvaro himself alongside producer Rodrigo Cotelo, the project gathers all of his original compositions that, until now, had never been documented for posterity.
What began as a straightforward effort to record works that had no prior renditions soon evolved—over several years of production—into something far broader in scope: a multidisciplinary “book” of his artistry, encompassing his music, drawings, craftsmanship as a luthier, and more.
The homonymous companion book includes a complete songbook of all 42 compositions, edited with Agustín Pardo Motz, biographical narratives by award-winning writer Mireya Soriano, a photographic catalogue of instruments built in Pacello’s lutherie workshop, a collection of his pen drawings, curated and narrated by Enrique Badaró, and more.
Alvaro’s own artwork is featured on the covers and graphic design of all four volumes, including a surrealistic pen-drawn face that unifies the series.
Musically, each volume explores a different facet of Pacello’s creative voice: Volume I – rooted in jazz, swing, and big band traditions, Volume II – a collection of intimate ballads, Volume III – driven by the high-energy language of jazz fusion and jazz-rock fusion, and Volume IV – a world music tapestry, centered on Brazilian and Uruguayan rhythms that deeply influenced his work.
An intentional and distinctive feature of the series is that each volume contains at least two interpretations of the same composition. The production team designed this to showcase how a single piece could be approached, arranged, and recorded in different ways—revealing the versatility and enduring strength of Pacello’s writing across contrasting lights and contexts.
The motivation behind La música de Álvaro Pacello was never solely admiration for his artistry, but also a response to the injustice of his personal circumstances following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. The desire to honor him during his lifetime was the driving force that sustained the years of research, recording, and production—all under Álvaro’s own supervision. The book also features the work of Mercedes Vaccarezza, who offers an in-depth exploration of multiple sclerosis, its somatic roots, and its consequences.
Vol.I Highlights

Kicking off the ambitious four-volume La música de Alvaro Pacello project, this first installment dives headfirst into the golden age of swing, big band, and bebop, delivering a vibrant, cinematic listening experience. It’s a joyful yet sophisticated return for #Bloomerangs— with the same rhythm section of their second release the award-nominated Moments and Fragments (2020)—and it feels both steeped in tradition and freshly imaginative.
The album bursts open with “Algo Brotó” (something sprouted), an upbeat invitation into Pacello’s world, brimming with crisp brass lines and playful rhythmic shifts that sits perfectly in Tiffany Johns’ lush, masterfully arranged brass section. The centerpiece, “La Tanga” (the female tango), is a stunning tango jazz hybrid, clearly inspired by Astor Piazzolla’s brooding lyricism. Featuring Maxi Nathan’s shimmering vibraphone and Nicolás Mora’s expressive bandoneón, the track becomes a hypnotic dance between elegance and tension.
Other standouts include “Rosario Tal Vez”(may be in Rosario), which flows with a more romantic, late-night swing feel, and “Sugestión”, where Rob Dixon’s saxophone soars with a warm, conversational tone. The playful “Traca Traca” keeps the momentum high, with the rhythm section delivering impeccable drive. “Swinguiyo” is a bebop-flavored gem, with guitarist Brandon Coleman bringing a stylish, quicksilver solo. Its reprise closes the album like a wink to the audience—shorter, tighter, and full of swagger.
With Pacello’s compositional vision as its anchor, this volume blends precision and spontaneity, nostalgia and modernity. The interplay between the core #Bloomerangs lineup and the featured guests makes each track a conversation across eras and styles—proof that swing, big band, and bebop still have endless stories to tell.
