La música de Alvaro Pacello Vol.4
Overview
#Bloomerangs

Instru Dash Mental presents #Bloomerangs – La música de Alvaro Pacello. This four-volume, multi-episodic collection brings to light the never-before-released music of artistic polyglot Alvaro Pacello. Curated by Alvaro himself alongside producer Rodrigo Cotelo, the project gathers all of his original compositions that, until now, had never been documented for posterity.
What began as a straightforward effort to record works that had no prior renditions soon evolved—over several years of production—into something far broader in scope: a multidisciplinary “book” of his artistry, encompassing his music, drawings, craftsmanship as a luthier, and more.
The homonymous companion book includes a complete songbook of all 42 compositions, edited with Agustín Pardo Motz, biographical narratives by award-winning writer Mireya Soriano, a photographic catalogue of instruments built in Pacello’s lutherie workshop, a collection of his pen drawings, curated and narrated by Enrique Badaró, and more.
Alvaro’s own artwork is featured on the covers and graphic design of all four volumes, including a surrealistic pen-drawn face that unifies the series.
Musically, each volume explores a different facet of Pacello’s creative voice: Volume I – rooted in jazz, swing, and big band traditions, Volume II – a collection of intimate ballads, Volume III – driven by the high-energy language of jazz fusion and jazz-rock fusion, and Volume IV – a world music tapestry, centered on Brazilian and Uruguayan rhythms that deeply influenced his work.
An intentional and distinctive feature of the series is that each volume contains at least two interpretations of the same composition. The production team designed this to showcase how a single piece could be approached, arranged, and recorded in different ways—revealing the versatility and enduring strength of Pacello’s writing across contrasting lights and contexts.
The motivation behind La música de Álvaro Pacello was never solely admiration for his artistry, but also a response to the injustice of his personal circumstances following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. The desire to honor him during his lifetime was the driving force that sustained the years of research, recording, and production—all under Álvaro’s own supervision. The book also features the work of Mercedes Vaccarezza, who offers an in-depth exploration of multiple sclerosis, its somatic roots, and its consequences.
Vol.4 Highlights

Closing out the four-volume journey of La música de Alvaro Pacello, #Bloomerangs delivers a vibrant, rhythm-rich finale that celebrates the pulse of the world—anchored in the grooves of Candombe, Choro, Samba, Bossa, and beyond. Where the earlier volumes explored swing, ballads, and fusion, this last chapter is a passport stamped with South American traditions that deeply shaped Pacello's work, reframed through #Bloomerangs global jazz vision.
Gastón Reggio, the sole drummer for the entire project and already a recording artist for Instru Dash Mental, drives the album with a deep rhythmic expressiveness. Around him, an array of stellar collaborators—bassists Marco Messina, Francisco Fattoruso, Fede Righi, and Antonino Restuccia; percussionist Nicolás Galván; and a rotating cast of winds, strings, and keyboards—bring each genre to life with authenticity and flair.
The journey begins with “Al Sur” (southbound), a laid-back candombe beat where Nacho Labrada’s warm, lyrical piano intertwines with Rodrigo Cotelo’s expressive guitar work, creating a dialogue that flows with both intimacy and rhythmic drive. The playful “O Cara” (that dude) dives into chorinho, featuring Francisco Fattoruso’s agile bass lines, Pablo Somma’s lyrical flute, and Daniel Olivera’s cavaquinho sparkle. “Para Yoni” (for Yoni) melds candombe with jazz fusion, lit up by Clarence T. Hill’s synth leads and Brandon Coleman’s guitar.
“Sueño” (dream) is a shape-shifter: opening in gentle bossa nova mode before bursting into a whirlwind chorinho led by Frank Glover’s clarinet and Pablo Somma’s flute. “Tranqui” (tranquil) raises the stakes with a candombe groove that suddenly blossoms into an explosive bebop section with full orchestra with Nacho González’s string arrangement pushing the track into cinematic territory.
The album also revisits volume I “Traca Traca” reappearing in two new guises—Brazilian jazz (Reprise I) and a samba-school street carnival explosion (Reprise II). You can also find Murga jazz elements in “Fue Así (Reprise)” a reimagination of its version in Volume III, performed and arranged by La Jarana. Another standout reprise, “Sueño (Reprise)”, is a tango jazz miniature innuendo executed by Pablo Estigarribia’s elegant piano.
As a finale, Vol. IV is a celebration of movement, community, and cultural exchange. It ties the La música de Alvaro Pacello project together not with a quiet goodbye, but with a street parade of sound—leaving listeners on their feet, smiling, and ready for the next rhythm to arrive.
