MAIN ART accross all 4.png

Instru Dash Mental presents #Bloomerangs – La música de Alvaro Pacello. This four-volume, multi-episodic collection brings to light the never-before-released music of artistic polyglot Alvaro Pacello. Curated by Alvaro himself alongside producer Rodrigo Cotelo, the project gathers all of his original compositions that, until now, had never been documented for posterity.

What began as a straightforward effort to record works that had no prior renditions soon evolved—over several years of production—into something far broader in scope: a multidisciplinary “book” of his artistry, encompassing his music, drawings, craftsmanship as a luthier, and more.

The homonymous companion book includes a complete songbook of all 42 compositions, edited with Agustín Pardo Motz, biographical narratives by award-winning writer Mireya Soriano, a photographic catalogue of instruments built in Pacello’s lutherie workshop, a collection of his pen drawings, curated and narrated by Enrique Badaró, and more.

Alvaro’s own artwork is featured on the covers and graphic design of all four volumes, including a surrealistic pen-drawn face that unifies the series.

Musically, each volume explores a different facet of Pacello’s creative voice: Volume I – rooted in jazz, swing, and big band traditions, Volume II – a collection of intimate ballads, Volume III – driven by the high-energy language of jazz fusion and jazz-rock fusion, and Volume IV – a world music tapestry, centered on Brazilian and Uruguayan rhythms that deeply influenced his work.

An intentional and distinctive feature of the series is that each volume contains at least two interpretations of the same composition. The production team designed this to showcase how a single piece could be approached, arranged, and recorded in different ways—revealing the versatility and enduring strength of Pacello’s writing across contrasting lights and contexts.

The motivation behind La música de Álvaro Pacello was never solely admiration for his artistry, but also a response to the injustice of his personal circumstances following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. The desire to honor him during his lifetime was the driving force that sustained the years of research, recording, and production—all under Álvaro’s own supervision. The book also features the work of Mercedes Vaccarezza, who offers an in-depth exploration of multiple sclerosis, its somatic roots, and its consequences.

Vol.3 Highlights

The third volume in the La música de Alvaro Pacello series roars to life with the electric urgency of jazz fusion and jazz-rock at its core, taking clear inspiration from Chick Corea’s Elektric Band era and the searing guitar virtuosity of Frank Gambale. It’s an album where rhythmic precision, harmonic daring, and raw energy coexist—and where the bass takes center stage as both a tribute and a challenge, honoring Pacello’s own instrument.

Aaron Smith’s drumming is the album’s powerful engine, and the low-end foundation is shared by a dream-team roster of bassists—Kenneth “Kaybass” Diggs III, Francisco Fattoruso, Marco Messina, and Scott Pazera—each delivering muscular yet nuanced performances. With Pacello’s bass-centric compositions as the blueprint, their interpretations shine as technical feats and deep musical statements.

“Al Fin” (in the end) bursts open the set with Nacho Labrada’s kaleidoscopic synths, Rodrigo Cotelo and José Beledo trading guitar solos, with “Sheffa” Giorgieff adding vocal textures that give the track a soaring, anthemic edge. The two-part “Los Dos Diablillos”(the two little devils) showcases the project’s adventurous spirit: Part I simmers with Francisco Fattoruso’s driving bass lines and Clarence T. Hill’s synth work, while Part II cuts through the groove with Federico Navarro’s fiery guitar solo and Mauricio Trobo’s vocal and synth inflections.

One of the album’s most luminous moments is “Llegaste” (you arrived), where Rodrigo G Pahlen’s harmonica gracefully paints the electric landscape like a beam of sunlight—melodic, yearning, and perfectly framed by Marco Messina’s warm bass tone and Clay Wulbrecht’s shimmering Rhodes. “Fue Así” finds “Sheffa” Giorgieff in the spotlight, delivering an intimate heartfelt introduction with vocal and piano performance.

Elsewhere, the playful “Pica Pablito Atrás del Árbol” (I see Pablito behind the tree) and the powerful “Aves” (birds)  show the ensemble’s dynamic range, moving seamlessly from intricate interplay to lyrical space. Closing track “Swip Swip” rides Francisco Fattoruso’s propulsive bass and Federico Navarro’s guitar firepower to a thrilling finale, with Labrada and Wulbrecht layering textures that feel both vintage and futuristic.

Vol. III is a high-octane homage to fusion’s golden era, reimagined through Pacello’s singular lens. It’s a showcase of virtuosic bass artistry, fearless ensemble playing, and an electric spark that refuses to fade.
